Robin Street Market & Cache Designer Furniture

We are very excited to announce that you can now see, touch (and of course buy!) some of our unique Robin Street Market products & art from a gorgeous new Melbourne location, Cache Designer Furniture in Richmond, Melbourne, Australia.  Cache was set up in 2010 by talented furniture designer and maker, Dain Fewings, and his partner Niki.   

Most of you will know by now how much we love unique, one-off products and as such we adore the Cache philosophy - Dain is passionate about making unique, one-off pieces, using carefully selected recycled timber and traditional joinery techniques such as hand-cut dovetails. 

The philosophy behind Cache is simple - it's about returning to basics, to the simplicity and satisfaction of commissioning a local craftsman, rather than having to resort to anonymously-produced factory pieces from an assembly line.  We love the stunning pieces of furniture that Dain creates and we are sure you will too.

Robins On The Loose 2009: Nashville, USA

Well, those Robins have been at it again - this time they have been gallivanting around Nashville, USA.  On their quest to find the makers of unique and handmade items for Robin Street Market, they decided to have a little stopover in Nashville to quench David's thirst for all things music related.   They were lucky enough to stay with some lovely locals (the Feasters) and had a fabulous time sampling all that Nashville had to offer.  And they are chomping at the bit (or maybe flapping at the wings?) to get back there some time soon (hopefully very soon!).

Liz Disler "Intimate Pack" Giveaway

We were very excited to welcome Liz Disler to our nest a few months ago because we absolutely adore her range of luxurious, organic clothing.  Her last range of clothing has been extremely popular and is selling out fast with only limited sizes still available so be sure to check out the range soon if you haven't already done so.  Liz is working hard on a brand new range to be released in a few months so keep your eyes out for that as it's sure to be gorgeous!

Robins On The Loose: Canada 2009

The Robins have been on the loose again, this time in Canada!  This is the second video in the "Robins On The Loose" series.  You can check out the first video (Japan) here

The soundtrack to this video is called "New Day" and is an original song written and performed by David Cosma, a very busy (and talented) little Robin.   He happens to also be strangely obsessed with Canadian wildlife and frozen rivers (as you will witness in the video).

Slow Cooked Lamb Stew

This slow cooked lamb stew recipe produces a stew that is rustic and hearty and the recipe apparently originates from Puglia in Italy (which just makes me feel warm and fuzzy when cooking it for some reason). It is extremely easy to prepare and once the prep is done you just cook the bejeezus out of it to produce the "melt in the mouth" lamb.  And, the best part is that it tastes even better the next day so it's great for leftovers! 


  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • A few sprigs of fresh rosemary
  • A good lug of olive oil
  • 1 kg of diced lamb (trimmed of fat)
  • flour seasoned with cayenne pepper (for dredging) [I like things spicy (hence the cayenne pepper) but if you prefer your food a little on the calmer side you can season with freshly ground black pepper].
  • 1 cup of white wine
  • Salt to season
  • 6 chopped tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 2 potatoes
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 handful of green beans
  1. Preheat the oven to 130 degrees celcius (if you only have a couple of hours to cook the stew then crank the oven up to 180 degrees and cook for 2 hours instead of 4). Chop up the garlic, heat some of the oil in a casserole dish and add the garlic and rosemary to the oil.  Cook over medium heat until garlic is golden.
  2. Dredge the lamb in the flour.  Add the lamb to the garlic and rosemary and cook until the lamb is brown on the outside. 
  3. Add the wine, raise the heat and bring to the boil.  Season with salt.
  4. Stir in the tomatoes and the stock and stir well.  
  5. Cover the casserole dish and put the dish in the oven.  Bake for 3-4 hours.  Put in some chopped potatoes 30 mins before you finish cooking, and add some chopped carrots and beans 15 mins before you finish cooking.
  6. Serve with either steamed rice or polenta, it is delicious with both.

Strawberry Dumplings

This recipe is provided by one of Robin Street Market's artist, Linda Vydra.  Thanks Linda!! Check out Linda's artist page, she makes the most amazing, unique & beautiful millinery using recycled music records.

250 grams continental flour
1 egg
200 grams cottage cheese
1 cup of milk
30 grams butter
Pinch of salt
4 punnets of strawberries
3 tablespoons of icing sugar

Wash strawberries. Prepare 3 punnets of strawberries by chopping off the leaves and root then cut them into halves.  Mix continental flour, egg, cottage cheese, butter, salt and gradually add milk until you get a dough texture. Use your hands to knead the mixture.

On a clean table, sprinkle some continental flour and roll out the dough mixture. Using the top of a glass, make circles into your dough and pull away the excess dough. Put a strawberry inside and roll into the shape of a ball.

Continue doing so until you have used all of your dough. Add dumplings to boiling water until they float (4-6mins). Take them out as soon as they are floating.

Strawberry sauce
Wash 1 punnet of strawberries. Put them in a blender, add 3 tablespoons of icing sugar, a touch of whip cream if you desire and blend to create the sauce.  Heat up the sauce in the microwave.

Serve 3-6 dumplings per person, pour hot strawberry sauce over the top and add icing sugar on top to finish it off.
