Robins On The Loose: Barcelona, Spain

It's been a while since we have updated you on the Robin's travels so here is part 4 of our Robins On The Loose video series.  Barcelona, Spain, was the next stop on the itinerary when the Robin's left the nest and travelled to the other side of the world in their search to find makers of unique and handmade items for Robin Street Market.

We hope you enjoy this snapshot of our time in Spain, and if you do enjoy it, you can check out the rest of the series.  The track to this video is written and performed by David Cosma.  Let us know what you think of the video by commenting below, we really enjoy hearing from you!

Joe Green, Northcote

While passing through Northcote the other day, we decided to stop for a bite and ended up at Joe Green in Mitchell Street.  It is a really interesting building with some wonderful collectables inside, including a sensational world clock that used to hang on the world of a country pub.  Our meals were delicious and the coffee was great - I feasted on semolina pancakes with ricotta cream, honey and pistachio nuts and David had the big breakfast.  We were so engrossed in our food that we didn't take any photos (silly us!) but we plan on getting back there at some stage to refuel and also to take a photo of that amazing clock...  For all you Melburnians, Joe Green is located at 2A Mitchell Street, Northcote (right near the corner of High St).

The Green Grocer, North Fitzroy

Delicious Boston Beans
The Green Grocer in North Fitzroy used to be a regular haunt of ours when we were North Fitzroy locals almost a decade ago.  We haven't been there in a while and the other day we were thinking about where we could go to grab some brunch and we thought we'd go back and check it out.  I used to always have the boston beans so I ordered them again and was surprised to find that they are even yummier than they used to be!  The tomato and ginger made the beans so flavoursome and the fetta just made the dish perfetto!!  Even the Tasmanian Ginger Beer that I had to drink was delicious.  David thoroughly enjoyed his Moroccan Breakfast too (pictured below).  If you haven't been to The Green Grocer and you are a Melbourne local, we highly recommend that you go and check it out.  While you are there you can check out their local, organic produce and they even have a cooking school!  The Green Grocer is located at 217 St Georges Road North Fitzroy and here is a link to their website.

Robins Head South

Well, our annual trip to our adopted state of Queensland is over. Our hearts have been breaking watching all the suffering that people are going through with the awful floods in Queensland, NSW and in our home state of Victoria. Our thoughts are with everyone that has been affected and also to people impacted by the fires over in Western Australia.

We packed up the car with our belongings and our lovely pooch Lola in early January and headed South for the 23 hour drive home.  We have grown to enjoy the drive and use it as an excuse to take in the sights of our sensational country.

Parkes hosts an annual Elvis birthday celebration, so seeing as David is a huge Elvis fan we decided to stop in and check it out.  We spotted this amazing Cadillac with an equally amazing, retro caravan attached.  We seriously considered jumping behind the wheel and driving off in it but we thought the better of it and decided to just take a photo instead.
We met some cows along the way.  And we thought there was something quite superb about this particular cow who was just chilling out by the side of the road.

Plenty of quirky buildings and residences to look at in some of the interesting small towns that we drive through.
Lola is always such an absolute legend throughout the long drive, so we reward her with a special treat every now and then - and when we spotted this lake we knew what her next treat would be.
One very happy pooch after a well deserved dip.
We saw a lot of this on the way home.
And these...
Great tree.
Big sigh. We love you Qld (we really, really do) but we always miss our good old Vic while we are away.

Paper Mache Giveaway!

We have just added some fantastic new Wola Nani paper mache products to the Nest - these products are all handmade in South Africa.  Wola Nani is a Xhosa word meaning "we embrace and develop one another".  It is also the name of an organisation that was started in 1994 to help people from very poor communities within the Western Cape living with HIV and AIDS.  Wola Nani allows the crafters to be able to provide shelter as well as education for their children solely from income earned from the program.

We think that Wola Nani is such an amazing cause that we have decided to celebrate the addition of our new paper mache bowls and bins by having a giveaway.  All you need to do to enter is to visit our Wola Nani page and then leave a comment at this blog telling us which is your favourite Wola Nani product - the winner (drawn at random) will win their nominated favourite product.  Giveaway closes at midnight on Friday 21st January 2011 and the winner will be drawn at random and announced on this blog on Saturday 22nd.

Here are some of the new products added, and you can check out the whole range here:

Our New Little Friend

We thought we would introduce you to our new little friend who decided to make himself at home in our Christmas tree this year. Lucky for him it's a real tree so he didn't lose his new home once Christmas was over.
